National Council of Negro Women

Hello Hon-Tey's,
Its been a while since we chatted, but boy do I have some nourishment for your soul today!  I was recently introduced to an organization that I strongly felt the need to share with you, especially those looking to make a difference in the community. The National Council of Negro Women (NCNW), a nonprofit membership organization founded by Mary McLeod Bethune in 1935.

Mary McLeod Bethune (July 10 1875 - May 18, 1955)
This organization advocates for women of African descent within the community.  NCNW addresses issues of human welfare and rights through public education, community service and advocacy.  They are the VOICE for the voiceless and the HANDS of the helpless.  They translate their philosophy of public education, community service and advocacy into thought provoking and meaningful activities designed to make a difference and inspire.

NCNW reaches nearly 4 million women through 39 national affiliate organizations and more than 240 sections through activities such as:
  • Training and supporting women and youth in career development and community leadership.
  • Providing mentoring and educational support to our young people.
  • Promoting healthy lifestyles and behaviors through wellness projects.
  • Sponsoring events, such as the Black Family Reunion Celebration, to build on strengths and traditional    values.
  • Disseminating information about issues affecting African American women and their families.
  • Supporting economic development and entrepreneurship.
WHEW!  These ladies are on it!  So if your ready to make a difference in your community log onto http://www.ncnw.org/about/index.htm and tell em Nikki Johnson sent ya, Hon-Tey!

Murderer or Enabler???

Hello Hon-Tey's!

I'm sure you have heard about the guilty verdict of Dr. Conrad Murray.  Well, if you haven't you need to crawl from under that rock your hiding under and catch up.

My opinion of the whole thing is cut and dry. I feel as though MJ was paying this man tons of money to make sure he had a good night's sleep "by any means necessary".  And on the other hand I feel as though Dr, Murray took an oath that he should have taken serious despite how much money was being thrown at him.

All in all Dr. Conrad Murray should have used better judgement...and not been blinded by the almighty dollar.

Jordan's back in the CHI, Baby!!!

COMMERCIAL IMAGE - In this photograph taken by AP Images for Michael Jordan's Steak House, Laurence Geller, president and CEO of Strategic Hotels and Resorts, and Michael Jordan, mark the official opening of Michael Jordan's Steak House Chicago with a ribbon cutting at the grand opening celebration, in Chicago, Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011. The new restaurant is located in the InterContinental Chicago, a Strategic Hotels and Resorts property.

Hello Hon-Tey's!

For those of you that don't know me wouldn't have known that I am a "Foodie".  I go out of my way to eat at various restaurants in the city and elsewhere. My most recent Foodie Adventure has included Michael Jordan's Steak House in which I had the opportunity to have lunch with a friend of mine.  Upon my arrival I was surprised to see that no in your face Bulls or sports paraphernalia was strategically placed.  Its located inside the Intercontinental Hotel which is already a "shi shi poo poo" establishment on its on. However, when the #23 was placed, it was very subtle and tastefully done.

This is NOT your go to spot after the game with your boys, but it is your go to spot for a first date, night out with the Mrs., or just a classy sit down dinner on any given day or night. I had the Crispy Chicken and Waffles (I know, typical, right!?), which was GREAT!  I later washed it down with the Dancer's Delight which almost made me reinvent the When Harry Met Sally deli scene. YES!  It was that good!

All in all if I was I were to rate this restaurant on ambiance I would give it an 8, and food it gets a 9.  Ciao Bella, Hon-Tey's!  Check it out, tell em Yo Nikki sent ya!

For MEN ONLY...if you dare!

Hello Hon-Tey's!
Currently on my radar of fashion must have's I ran across a growing trend among men.  Upon initial introduction I was taken back quit a bit...but I quickly regained my composure and immediately thought of David Bowie and his ability to don womens clothing while still maintaining his manly edge.  Take a look at a couple of the new trends that are gracing the runways of some of the most desired designers in the industry.  Women, do you think your man can pull this off?  Men, can you see yourself carrying a "murse" with your favorite sports team logo?

Real Life Superheroes...might be in your city!

Hello Hon--Tey's!

As always I keep you updated on my radar of things that interest me.  Today it is a documentary on Real Life Super Heroes.  Yeah, you read right.  Currently, on HBO there is a show that follows everyday people who either moonlight or are full time Superheroes!  They are men and women who range in age from 21 to 65 who sole purpose is to go out help the less fortunate, scope out and prevent crimes from occurring or set up "bait" operations so a crime can happen...then they can ZOOM IN and stop it.

These individuals are not trained or hired by your local police department.  They are just regular people who like the idea of being Real Life Superheroes!  They are people who see society as troubled and have a dislike for law enforcement. Unlike the characters from your childhood comic...these Superheroes don't have names that you would be familiar with at all. Now with no further introduction I bring to you Real Life Superheroes!!!!!
